HOWARD CARTER ENDS TOMB OPERATIONS IN EGYPT DUE TO GOVERNMENT'S 'DISCOURTESY'
Luxor, Egypt (JFK+50) On February 13, 1924, the Associated Press reports Howard Carter, head of excavation work on the tomb of King Tutankhamen, closed operations yesterday because the government of Egypt refused to allow wives of the excavators to enter the tomb.
Scientists who viewed the tomb before closure described it as surpassing anything known in Egyptology*.
The AP states that it was the head of the mummy case inside the tomb which "drew every face." It was made of solid gold and the eyes were crystal.
*Egyptology is the scientific study of Ancient Egypt's history, language, literature, religion, architecture & art dating from the 5th millennium BC to the 4th century AD.
