FARM-LABOR CONVENTION NOMINATES DUNCAN MCDONALD FOR PRESIDENT
St. Paul, Minnesota (JFK+50) International News Service reports on June 21, 1924 that Duncan McDonald* of the United Mine Workers of Illinois "has been nominated as the presidential candidate by the Farmer-Labor Convention" meeting here in St. Paul.
The nomination, however, is on a 'provisional ticket' to allow an opening "for possible alliance with the (Robert M.) La Follette forces."
Mr. McDonald denies that he is a communist but affirms that he is "a radical in standing for fair government, honesty and decency."
*Duncan McDonald (1873-1965) began working in the coal mines at age 11 & became president of the Illinois branch of the United Mine Workers & president of the Illinois Federation of Labor.
