"FOR MORE THAN 400 POOR & NEEDY INVALIDS"

STAR BEGINS CAMPAIGN TO PUT CRYSTAL RADIO SETS AT BEDSIDE OF D.C.'S SHUT-INS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) The Sunday Star reports on June 1, 1924, that more than 400 "poor and needy invalids" in Washington are waiting for "a bit of cheerfulness."

Since these poor unfortunates have no radio sets to listen to the Star is beginning a campaign "to place a crystal receiving set* at the bedside of every deserving invalid in the District."

The Star hopes that Washingtonians who own older sets that they have replaced with newer ones will donate their old crystal radios for use by the "shut-ins."

*Crystal Receiver/Set uses the power of the receiver signal to produce sound.  It is named for a crystal detector (diode).  They are the simplest type of radio receivers.
