"I DON"T THINK I WILL"

WOODROW WILSON'S DAUGHTER SNUBS NEW YORK WORLD EXECUTIVE EDITOR

New York City (JFK+50) On June 27, 1924, Jean Eliot of The Washington Times reports Miss Margaret Wilson*, daughter of former President Woodrow Wilson, was approached yesterday here in New York City by Herbert B. Swope**, executive editor of the New York World.

Miss Wilson was in conversation with William Jennings Bryan when Mr. Swope interrupted to ask her to shake hands with him.  Miss Wilson said, "I don't think I will," and walked away.

Mr. Swope's newspaper had been leading a "deadly war" against the candidacy of William G. McAdoo, who just happens to be Mrs. Wilson's brother-in-law.

*Margaret Woodrow Wilson (1886-1944) was born in Gainesville, Georgia, the eldest child of Woodrow & Ellen Wilson.  MWW served as social hostess (1st Lady) for her father in the White House.

**Herbert Bayard Swope (1882-1958) was born in St. Louis Missouri to German immigrants & became ex ed of The New York World.  HBS won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting three times & established the 1st op-ed page in 1921.
