"SAYS HE WILL GET NOMINATION & WIN ELECTION"

McADOO GREETED WITH ROUSING RECEPTION AT UNION STATION

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On June 18, 1924, William Gibbs McAdoo* held an impromptu reception on the concourse of Union Station here in the Nation's Capital.

McAdoo declared confidence that he will be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in 1924 and will win the general election in November.

The potential Democratic nominee was hoisted on the shoulders of "ardent railway men" during the half-hour reception.

JFK+50 NOTE

The Democratic presidential nominee in 1924 would not be William G. McAdoo but John W. Davis who lost the general election to Calvin Coolidge.

The final totals were Coolidge 382, Davis 136, La Follette 13.  The Democrat carried "The Solid South" while the Republican won every northern & western state except Wisconsin which was won by the Progressive.

*William Gibbs McAdoo (1863-1941) was born in Marietta, Georgia & graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.   WGM served as Secretary of Treasury 1913-1918 & US Senator (D-California) 1933-1938.
