"CAN'T SUPPORT J.P. MORGAN'S PERSONAL ATTORNEY"

SENATOR WHEELER WILL BACK THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On July 16, 1924, Senator Burton K. Wheeler (D-Montana) said he "probably" will support third party candidate Robert M. "Bob" La Follette in the 1924 presidential race.

Senator Wheeler, prosecutor of the Harry Daughtery investigating committee, said...

"I do not see how I can support John W. Davis (Democratic presidential nominee).  In view of my past position, I could not ask the people of my state to vote for Mr. (J.P.) Morgan's personal attorney."

*Burton Kendall Wheeler (1882-1975) was born in Hudson, Massachusetts.  BKW was US Attorney for the District of Montana 1912-1918 & U.S. Senator 1923-1947.
