"ODDS OF RECOVERY PUT AT A THOUSAND TO ONE"

CALVIN COOLIDGE JR.'S CONDITION 'MORE GRAVE'

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On July 7, 1924, The Evening Star reports the condition of the son of the President of the United States and Mrs. Coolidge "is more grave."

Calvin Coolidge, Jr., sixteen years old, is the victim of septic poisoning and has been fighting for his life the past three days.

The President and First Lady have remained at Walter Reed Army Medical Center with their son throughout the ordeal except for times they returned to the White House to take lunch.

Doctors reportedly hold "little hope" for the young man with one saying the odds of recovery are "a thousand to one."  

Calvin Coolidge Jr. developed gas in the stomach preventing administration of nourishment thus adding to the dire situation*. 

*Most stomach gas forms in the colon (large intestine) when bacteria ferment carbohydrates, fiber, starches and sugar that aren't digested in the small intestines.

JFK+50 NOTE

Presidential families who have had children pass away while in office include The Adams, The Lincolns, The Coolidges & The Kennedys.   Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, born prematurely on August 7 1963 died on August 9 1963 of infant respiratory distress syndrome.
