"PROHIBITS WEARING OF KNICKERS BY FEMALES"

LOUISIANA TOWN PASSES ORDINANCE BANNING KISSING & ONE PIECE BATHING SUITS

Hammond, Louisiana (JFK+50) On August 10, 1924, The Associated Press reports the board of county commissioners here in Hammond have passed an ordinance which bans kissing, "petting parties," one-piece bathing suits and the exhibition of more than one-fourth of a lower limb.

The ordinance prohibits the wearing of trousers (knickers)* by females.

The penalties set for violations of this ordinance range from $10 to $50, 5 to 30 days in jail or both.

*knickers, aka knickerbockers are loose-fitting trousers gathered at the knee or calf
