LOTTA CRABTREE, 'NATION'S DARLING.' DIES AT AGE 77
Boston, Massachusetts (JFK+50) On September 26, 1924, the Associated Press reports the death last evening of 'the Nation's Darling,' Lotta Crabtree*, who "danced her way to a fortune."
The actress, who has no heirs, has an estate with an estimated value from $1.5 million to 3 times that amount.
Miss Crabtree died at the Brewster Hotel** here in Boston which she purchased in 1909. Cause of death was not given.
*Charlotte Mignon "Lotta" Crabtree (1847-1924) was born in New York City and got her start in the entertainment industry at age six. After success in California, LC began acting in plays & became the highest paid actress in the U.S. earning $5000 a week.
**The Hotel Brewster, located at Washington & Boylston Streets in Boston, MA, opened on October 14, 1908. It was described as a lavish and beautifully appointed hotel with 200 rooms.
