"DAWES SAYS WHAT COOLIDGE THINKS"

WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN  SAYS COOLIDGE IS 'HONEST & FEARLESS, BUT REACTIONARY'

Ashland, Oregon* (JFK+50) On September 11, 1924, The Seattle Star reports William Jennings Bryan** "invaded Oregon last night denouncing...'republican corruption' in support of the candidacy of John W. Davis and his brother, Governor Charles W. Bryan."

William Jennings Bryan, popularly known as 'the great commoner,' said...

"President Coolidge is honest and fearless but he is reactionary.  So is General Dawes.  The difference is that Dawes says what Coolidge thinks."

*Ashland is located in southern Oregon & is home to Southern Oregon University & the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

**William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) was born in Salem, Illinois & became the youngest presidential nominee of a major U.S. political party at age 36.  WJB was a dominant force in the Democratic Party serving as its presidential nominee 3 times: 1896, 1900 & 1908.

WJB served in the U.S. House of Representatives 1891-1895 & as Secretary of State 1913-1915.  He was part of the prosecution team in the Scopes 'Monkey' Trial of 1925.
