"SOME BELONGED TO LORD & LADY MOUNTBATTEN"

EXPENSIVE JEWELRY STOLEN ON LONG ISLAND

New York City (JFK+50) On September 10, 1924, the Associated Press reports $250,000 worth of jewelry "was stolen from the home of J.S. Cosden*, wealthy oil man and race horse owner."  The robbery took place at Sands Point, Long Island.

AP says "some of the gems belonged to Lord and Lady Mountbatten, who accompanied the Prince of Wales" to the United States and are lodging at the Cosden residence.

*Joshua Seney Cosden (1881-1940) established an oil refinery in Bigheart, Oklahoma in 1910.  He built Tulsa's 1st skyscraper & had a reported $50 million in assets at one time.  JSC lived extravagantly & enjoyed the high society life of New York City.
