"ONE OF BASEBALL'S GREATEST PITCHERS"

WALTER JOHNSON WINS AMERICAN LEAGUE MVP TROPHY FOR 1924

Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On September 14, 1924, the Associated Press reports that Walter Johnson*, pitching ace for the Washington baseball club for 17 years, has been proclaimed the winner of the American League Most Valuable Player trophy for 1924.

Walter Johnson's name will join George Sisler, manager of Saint Louis and Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees.

*Walter Perry Johnson (1887-1946) was born in Humboldt, Kansas & played for the Washington Senators 1907-1927.  WPJ is regarded as one of the greatest baseball pitchers in history.  His overall record on the mound is 417-279 with a 2.17 ERA & 3508 Ks.
