"PLEDGE OF THEIR LOYAL DEVOTION TO THEIR COUNTRY"

THOUSANDS OF HOLY NAME MEN TO MARCH FROM CAPITOL TO WASHINGTON MONUMENT

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) "People from every state of the Union" gathered in the Nation's Capital on September 21, 1924 for the Holy Name demonstration."

The Sunday Star reports "more than 100,000 men from Holy Name branches* all over the country" will march from the United States Capitol to the Washington Monument "in testimony of their honor for the Holy Name and pledge of their loyal devotion to their country."

President Calvin Coolidge will speak on the monument grounds and will be heard on radio by "millions of listeners."

The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Capitol's east front and will be led by the Very Rev. M. J. Ripple, national director of the U.S. Holy Name societies.

*Society of the Holy Name, dating to the early 15th century, is a Roman Catholic confraternity of the laity.  It is open to all Catholic adults & is dedicated to make reparations for blasphemy, perjury & immorality.
