GREAT DOME OF ST. PAUL'S NEEDS REPLACEMENT SAYS CITY SURVEYOR
London (JFK+50) On January 6, 1925, The Associated Press reports the city surveyor here in London has deemed the great dome of St. Paul's Cathedral* "a dangerous structure."
Officials at the Cathedral have been concerned "for some years...owing to cracks in the supporting pillars." Experts have recommended the removal and rebuilding of the dome.
The problem has been the task would cost 500 pounds and the closing of the cathedral for 30 years. The city supervisor wants the present hollow pillars replaced with solid ones before building a dome.

The structure sits on Ludgate Hill, the highest point in the city. SPC
