GOVERNOR'S SON, IN JAIL ON SPEEDING CHARGE, WORRIES ABOUT MISSING CHURCH SERVICES
Columbus, Ohio (JFK+50) On February 15, 1925, Associated Press reports the son of Governor Victor Donahey*, "serving a three-day jail sentence for automobile speeding," is concerned because "he will be unable to...attend church services."
The young man, whose habit is to attend church on Sunday, is very much aware that his father, the Governor of Ohio, "won't do anything" for him.
The lad admits...
"Dad's right! He...warned me about driving and I disobeyed him. Now you see where I am."
*Alvin Victor "Honest Vic" Donahey (1873-1946) was born in Cadwallader, Ohio & became a newspaper printer & served as governor of Ohio 1923-1929, U.S. Senator 1935-1941. AVD & his wife, Mary, had 12 children.
He earned the nickname 'Honest Vic' because the governor vetoed 76 bills in his 1st term. One of his sons (who may have been the one in this blog's posting), John William Donahey, served as Lt. Gov. of Ohio 1959-1963.
