ROCKEFELLER-CARNEGIE ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
New York City (JFK+50) On February 4, 1925, Associated Press reports the announcement today of "the engagement of James Stillman Rockefeller*, son of the late William G. Rockefeller, to Miss Nancy Carnegie**, daughter of Andrew Carnegie, 2nd."
The coming marriage, according to the AP report, brings together "two of the richest families in the world." The Rockefellers, who made their fortune in the oil industry and the Carnegies, who prospered as a result of the steel industry.
The report adds that J.S. Rockefeller was "captain of the champion 1924 Yale (rowing) crew."
*James Stillman Rockefeller (1902-2004) was born in Manhattan, New York City, & graduated Yale University 1924. JSR won the Olympic rowing championship in 1924 & became president of National City Bank 1952-1959 & chairman 1959-1967.
**Nancy Carnegie (1900-1994) was born in Manhattan, New York City & married J.S. Rockefeller on April 15, 1925. NC was the granddaughter of Thomas M. Carnegie &grand niece of Andrew Carnegie.
