"WILL NOT POSE WITH CAR ADVERTISING BAY STATE"

COOLIDGE REFUSES TO PARTICIPATE IN ADVERTISING SCHEMES, EVEN FOR HOME STATE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On February 3, 1925, The Evening Star reports that President Calvin Coolidge is not going to participate "in schemes for advertising" his home state of Massachusetts' summer resorts.

The President was visited at the White House today by "representatives of a chamber of commerce of a Massachusetts town" who brought along an automobile covered with "brilliantly painted inscriptions describing...the advantages of the town" as a great place to live.

When the President emerged from the White House to have his photograph made with the group, seeing the automobile would be in the background, he immediately turned around and went back to his office.

Mr. Coolidge let it be known that he would be more than happy to have a photo made with the group but not with their auto advertisement.

JFK+50 NOTE

Coolidge was the first POTUS to drive a Lincoln, the same model automobile that JFK was assassinated in.  Coolidge's Lincoln became his presidential car.
