PLOT AGAINST LIFE OF FOREIGN SECRETARY DISCOVERED
London (JFK+50) On April 29, 1925, Associated Press reports "additional guards have been assigned to protect Foreign Secretary Austen Chamberlain* in connection with the discovery of a plot against his life."
AP says that while this information came from "official quarters," there was "much reticence" about discussion of the alleged plot.
*Sir Joseph Austen Chamberlain KG (1863-1937), the older half-brother of Neville Chamberlain, served as a member of Parliament for 45 years where he became a leader of tariff reform. JAC also served twice as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
