"KNOWN AS 'PYAN HA SOVO' OR FOREST PEOPLE"

RUSSIAN PROFESSOR DISCOVERS 'HITHERTO UNKNOWN' RACE

Irkutsk, Siberia (JFK+50) On August 14, 1925, Associated Press reports that Professor B. N. Gorodkoff* has discovered "a hitherto unknown" race of people on the River Poora.

The Professor "has discovered five clans containing 600 persons.  They are known as 'Pyan Ha Sovo'** (forest people) by local Samoyeds.

JFK+50 NOTE

My research does not identify a River Poora as existing, however I do find the Pechora River that runs from northwest Russia into the Arctic Ocean.  It is the sixth longest river in Europe.  It is possible that the reference in the AP report to 'the River Poora' is a misprint or error in translation.

*B.N. Gorodkoff, Russian botanist & soil scientist known for work on soils of polar regions and contributing to the Flora of Russia.  He collected specimens and studied vegetation & soil in Siberia & other regions.

**Pyan Ha Sovo are described as a 'strange people' unlike Samoyeds with very dark hair & complexion.  They have a 'wholly different language.'
