"RECEIVED MEDAL OF HONOR IN BOXER REBELLION"

 MAJOR GENERAL BREWSTER RETIRES AFTER 'NOTEWORTHY' 40 YEAR MILITARY CAREER

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On December 15, 1925, The Evening Star reports "high commendations for a long period of Army service...have been extended to Major General Andre W. Brewster*, who retired from the service Wednesday.

Secretary of War Dwight W. Davis wrote...

"(I) wish to express...the department's appreciation of a most noteworthy military career of more than forty years.  You have participated in every...campaign that has occurred since...1885.  Your service in peace has shown the same merit as in war."

*Andre Walker Brewster (1862-1942) was born in Hoboken, New Jersey & graduated from Army War College, 1907.  AWB served (1885-1925) in the Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, Philippine-American War, Boxer Rebellion & WWI.  He received the Medal of Honor for service in the Boxer Rebellion.
