BARTHOLDI FOUNTAIN MAY BE RELOCATED TO GRANT OR SHERMAN CIRCLES
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 8, 1926, The Evening Star reports that "the Bartholdi fountain may be placed either in Grant or Sherman Circle if Congress passes the pending bill to authorize its removal from the Botanic Garden."
Senator George W. Pepper* (R-PA) introduced a measure last week for the fountain to be relocated "to make way for the completion of the (General George) Meade Memorial."
Officials of the Commission of Fine Arts are considering between the two circles.

According to the US Botanic Garden, the Bartholdi Fountain was dismantled & erected at Independence Ave & 1st Street SW in 1932. This is on the grounds of The United States Botanic Garden near the U.S. Capitol building. The Botanic Garden underwent relocation beginning in 1927.
*George Wharton Pepper (1867-1961) was US Senator 1922-1927, law professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law & founder of the Pepper Hamilton Law Firm. GWP was defeated in the Republican Primary of 1926 & returned to his law practice.
