"MANY MEMBERS LACK COURAGE TO TAKE A STAND"

SENATOR SAYS HE HAS 'MUCH EVIDENCE' OF UNPOPULARITY OF PROHIBITION

Shreveport, Louisiana (JFK+50) On March 9, 1926, former Indiana Senator Thomas Taggert* declared that many members of Congress "lack the courage to take a stand on the prohibition question."

The former senator, who "believes the next President will be a Democrat," says he has much evidence of unpopularity of the prohibition amendment throughout the country.

*Thomas Taggert (1856-1929) was born in County Monaghan, Ireland & immigrated to the U.S. in 1861.  TT became a political boss in the Democratic Party in Indiana & served as US Senator (D-Indiana) March-November 1916.  Prior he was mayor of Indianapolic 1895-1901.
