"AFTER 2 MONTHS' NEGOTIATION WITH US STATE DEPT"

DENMARK GRANTS MACMILLAN PERMISSION TO ACCOMPANY HIS ARCTIC EXPEDITION

Copenhagen, Denmark (JFK+50) On May 20, 1925, the Danish government...granted Donald MacMillan* permission to accompany his expedition to Greenland."

This follows "more than two months' negotiation with the American State Department."

The Evening Star reports the two month delay was a result of a member of MacMillan's previous expedition having killed an Eskimo.

*Donald MacMillan (1874-1970) was born in Provincetown, Massachusetts & became an explorer, sailor & researcher making 30 expeditions to the Arctic over his 46 year career.  DM pioneered the use of radios, airplanes & electricity in the Arctic.

"IT'S NO FOR NOW & NEVER FOR THE FUTURE"

BRITS MAKE OVERTURES TO DANES FOR BUYING GREENLAND

Copenhagen, Denmark (JFK+50) On November 7, 1923, the Associated Press reports Great Britain "recently made overtures to Denmark for buying Greenland*."

The source of the AP report is the Ekstrabladet**.  The newspaper states further that the British want to be allowed "to make the first offer of purchase if Denmark wished to sell at a future date."

The Ekstrabladet says Denmark's response to the British overtures to purchase Greenland is "no" for now and "never" for the future.

*Greenland is a North American territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.  It is the largest country within that Kingdom.  GL as the lowest density population in the world as 75% of its land is covered by a permanent ice sheet.

**Ekstra Bladet is a Danish tabloit newspaper founded in 1905 & published in Copenhagen.  EB focuses on investigation journalism.
