"MEETING REVEALED STRIVING TOWARD THE SAME END"

HARDING & ROOT CONFER FOR THREE HOURS IN MARION

Marion, Ohio (JFK+50) On December 13, 1920, President-elect Warren G. Harding conferred with Elihu Root* here in Marion.  The meeting, held in Mr. Harding's "little office," lasted three hours.

Mr. Root, who helped frame the League of Nations, described the meeting as "highly satisfactory," while the Washington Herald reported the next day that...

"the meeting unquestionably revealed (Harding & Root)...as striving toward the same end."

 

*Elihu Root (1845-1937) was born in Clinton, NY & educated at Hamilton College & NYU School of Law.  Described as 'one of the most brilliant administrators in American history,' ER served as Secretary of State under TR & Secretary of War under TR & McKinley.  He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912.
