"THE OTHER 98 PER CENT IS POISON"

COMMISSIONER HAYNES SAYS ONLY 2% OF BOOTLEG WHISKY IS DRINKABLE

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On March 8, 1922, Prohibition Commissioner Roy Asa Haynes* said that "only 2 per cent of the liquor analyzed by chemists of the prohibition forces is found to be drinkable."

What about the other 98 per cent?

That's poison!

This poison may be "temporarily injurious" if you are lucky, but could be "deadly" if you are not.

The Commissioner said...

"Continually we find whisky brought in after raids which would be deadly if taken in sufficient quantities."

Washington officials marvel at the fact that only five people died in 1921 from drinking poisonous liquor.

*Roy Asa Haynes (1881-1940) was editor of  a daily newspaper in Hillsboro, Ohio & U.S. Assistant Secretary of Treasury in charge of Prohibition enforcement, 1921-1925.
