OFFICIALS SAY PHOTOGRAPHS BY TELEPHONE WILL SOON BE COMMONPLACE
New York City (JFK+50) On May 20, 1924, telephone company officials claim "photographs by telephone" will be "commonplace...within a comparatively short time."
The International News Service reports that a photograph made in San Francisco will be able to be seen in New York City in five minutes time.
Telephone officials say the sending of photographs over telephone wires "is a prospect of the immediate future."
JFK+50 NOTE
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch successfully transmitted the 1st photo by wire to the New York World on Nov 15, 1920. Western Union's 1st wire photo came in 1921, AT&T 1924, & RCA 1926.
The Associated Press 1st wirephoto was transmitted in 1935 & the practice continued until 2004 with the identification (AP wirephoto).
On November 22, 1963 when JFK was assassinated in Dallas, wire photos were the 1st images transmitted to newspapers around the world & those images were also picked up by television networks to show to their viewers.
The 1st image transmitted over a mobile telephone came on June 11, 1997.
