"COOLIDGE HAS GREAT INFLUENCE IN NAMING CANDIDATE"

WHO WILL BE G.O.P. VICE-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN 1924?

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) According to N.O. Messenger, politicians are talking about the various "possibilities" to be President Calvin Coolidge's Vice-Presidential running mate as the 1924 Republican National Convention nears.

The short list includes Judge William S. Kenyon* of Iowa, Senator Arthur Capper** of Kansas, Senator James E. Watson*** of Indiana, Governor Arthur M. Hyde**** of Missouri and General Charles C. Dawes*****.

Messenger says that it is expected that whoever is chosen, President Coolidge "will have a great deal of influence in naming the candidate."

*William S. Kenyon (1869-1933) was a federal judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit.

**Arthur Capper (1865-1951) was Governor of Kansas 1915-1919 & U.S. Senator (R-Kansas) 1919-1949.

***James E. Watson (1864-1948) was Governor of Missouri 1921-1925.

****Arthur M. Hyde (1877-1947) was U.S. Senator (R-Missouri) 1916-1933.

*****Charles C. Dawes (1865-1951) was a Brigadier General in the American Expeditionary Force 1917-1919 & served as Vice-President of the United States 1925-1929.
