"DIVISION BETWEEN LEFT & RIGHT NEVER SO SHARP"

SPLIT IN ELECTORATE BETWEEN RADICAL & CONSERVATIVE VOTERS

Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) On August 3, 1924, N.O. Messenger of The Evening Star reports that the forthcoming presidential and congressional election campaigns, according to "many thoughtful political leaders," will be a struggle between "radical and conservative...voters, with growing disregard of strict party lines."

Messenger writes that the division between left and right "has never been so sharply marked."  He is of the opinion that the danger to the country lies in "indifference and incredulity that such a situation can be presented."

JFK+50 NOTE

While a case could be made that the political situation in the United States today is much similar to 1924, there are some notable differences.  Radicalism is no longer limited to the left side of the political spectrum, we now have the radical right.

Both sides see a danger to the country if the opposition takes power.  A close election is predicted for 2024 & it well may be that middle-of-the-road voters (independents) will tip the scales one way or the other.  Hopefully, indifference will not reign supreme.
