JUDGE TO DENY CHILDLESS DIVORCEES ALIMONY
Chicago, Illinois (JFK+50) On November 28, 1925, Associated Press reports that Superior Court Judge Harry Lewis "has no aid" for "professional alimony* diggers."
The Judge says...
"Why a healthy, childless woman should receive alimony from a divorced husband is beyond my comprehension?"
The husband, according to the judge, must consider the burden of alimony if he remarries while the wife may remarry at any time without that burden.
According to the judge, most of the women who come before him "own and earn almost as much as their husbands."
*alimony is court-ordered payments by one spouse to the other typically after a divorce
